Hi Paul - yes, they are quite different roles and affects "behind the scenes" stuff as well ;)

HAT's are more of an information service, so your interaction with the public is of a fairly transactional nature. CATs provide more hands-on assistance (at first) and patrol a given camping area so you get to "know" some of the campers.

Unless things have changed from previously, as a HAT at Leeds, you'll be camping with your uni' group in a separate compound from the HotBox CAT group - I don't think HotBox are running the HATs there (?). Whereas at Latitude, HotBox run both groups so we'll all camp together.

One of the supervisors will hopefully correct me if things are different this year ;)

Thanks for that, still sounds good, so the CATS and HATS dont work with each other?

Not directly. CATs work in the camp-site and HATs work mostly in the arena, they do some work around gates too. Normally they work the same shifts so some HATs will do some time as CATs too for example if the arena is open 11am - 1am then the early shift HATs will start off in a camp-site and be redeployed at HATs just before it opens and the night shift HATs will go to a camp-site after it shuts.
All HBE staff camp together so if you are a HBE HAT you will camp with the HBE CATs. Although as joolz says at some shows HATs come from local unis and they camp in separate areas.
Some of the fine detail around this hasn't been confirmed yet so i'm hesitant to put down a definite answer - but exactly whats going on will be made very clear to you when you come to book in at the event.

Hi, I'm Mike and I'm venturing up to Leeds for the first time.

I'm on a 'Cultural Exchange Visit' from Reading having been a CAT there for the last four years, and the last two at Latitude.

I keep being told that Leeds is better than Reading, so I've decided that the best way of finding out is to come and have a look for myself. I have a passport and am looking forward to going 'ooop North'.
