id go for at least 2 man for just yourself
you'll find you take way too much to the festival and its nice to have some space to move in your tent. You also never know when you might be brining someone back be it a lovely young lady...or your new found friend who shouldn't have had the last beer.
Id also go for a tent with an inner and outer layer they tend to keep the rain of better
as it will like everyone year decide throw it down one night.
i picked up a huge really good 4 man second hand in good condition last year off ebay for £10 that will be coming back this year :D.
Its well worth check for bargins on there instead of getting a new one
they just get muddy and wreaked at festivals.

i got a decent Eurohike 2/3 man one on Ebay couple years ago...hardly used...it has done me well

Morton39 posted this 29 June 2010

Agree with Baggsy. Take a 2/3 man tent for yourself and your stuff and one with inner and outer layers. A porch area is also useful for storage.

and the porch keeps beer cool

lumpadoodles posted this 29 June 2010

a 3 man tent for 1 is definitely needed lol especially if everything but the kitchen sink is packed hahah and ill second that about the porch keeping beer cool :D id love to know how it does it though!!!

I have a \"3\" man tent I use for myself, but half is usually used for bag/trolley/beer/general mess storage <_<.

I have had someone else with me in it and it does work, but it is a bit cosy...

Although a three-man tent is acceptable for one person to allow room for sleeping, kit and refreshments, please do not bring excessively large tents, as space can sometimes be limited... Plus the car park can seem a long way from the camping area if you have heavy equipment, so lightweight tents are the way to go!

we're taking a 3man tent for the 2 of us which will do us fine. i usually take a 2 man tent when i'm on my lonesome and have plenty of room to spread all my belongings out around the tent

MikeMorris posted this 30 June 2010

Tavis, you have a caravan! And I didn't see you dragging that over from the car park! So if your down sizing as well, does that mean that your living in a cardboard box?

Tavis posted this 30 June 2010

Haha! There were three of us sharing the caravan though! :o) ... And sometimes it does feel like I live in a box before and after a festival with the amount of event-related pakages that get stockpiled around my home! I'm looking forward to catching up at Latitude in a couple of weeks!

MikeMorris posted this 30 June 2010

Three of you in a caravan, I used to dreeeeam of three in a caravan. All I had was a cardboard box in the middle of the road......... ( Monty Python fans please feel free to carry on! )

And Tavis, having all those cardboard boxes at home does not mean that you can wear a new CAT T shirt every day for a year!!

Still, having seen the amount of admin that you end up with, I'm amazed you don't arrive in a mobile filing cabinet.

Good luck with all your final planning, and look forward to hearing more of your hob nobbing with Michal Eaves at Glasto. That is if you're still talking to us mere mortals :)

Tents have to be carried and be waterproof. anything beyond that is approaching caravan style luxury.
Whatever size of tent you have it is always too small, except when you are looking for something. Also Parkinson's camping corollary law states that \"tents expand to fill the field available\".

So I can't bring a twelve man and live like a king then Tavis? :P

Thanks for the replies girls and guys. Shall now be looking over ebay for a good deal :)

Hi Ross,

Asda have some very good deals on at the min for cheap tents, check this out for a bargain.

It includes :
1 three person tent,
2 camping chairs,
2 sleeping bags
and 1 lantern.

Bear in mind this is a single skin tent , but here is the link to it anyway, there is some other very nice tents on there too. They also deliver within about 3 days too

Ross posted this 04 July 2010

Hi Jo,

Thanks for the link, although I think I just got a good deal off ebay, a brand new 3 man tent, which has two layers, for £2.97 :)

Jo Shields posted this 04 July 2010

Wow, now thats what I call a bargain. Well done :)

I'm greedy when it comes to my tent, I have a lovely roomy 4 man Rage tunnel tent to myself that I salvaged from Glasto last year. But then I also over pack and insist on a double air bed to myself because I'm too old for all this roughing it malarky.

I think the most important factor for tents is the double skin for waterproof qualities. I've helped numerous people over the years attempt to make crappy little single skin tents waterproof with bin bags and string after a downpour. The first year I worked as a CAT at Leeds, we had a virtual stranger sleeping in our porch for 3 nights because his tent got flooded in a massive downpour.

lepus posted this 12 July 2010

How many nights does one have to sleep in your porch to lose stranger status?

Amymeister posted this 12 July 2010

Depends on how strange the stranger is :-p
